Black Gold and Heavy Lumber in MLB The Show 26 each require 40 program points, so you can finish either path by completing four of its five missions. Start with any Bobby Witt Jr. card you own: his 500 Parallel XP requirement awards 10 points in both programs, reducing the work left for Paul Skenes and Tony Gwynn. Before budgeting for
MLB The Show 26 Stubs, check which eligible cards already fit your squad.
1 How Does Bobby Witt Jr Connect Both MLB The Show 26 Programs
Completing 500 PXP with any Bobby Witt Jr. player item supplies 10 points to Black Gold and another 10 to Heavy Lumber. The same mission also advances Autumn Ascensions, but those awards remain on their individual paths; you cannot combine them into one larger total. The new 99 OVR Witt card is not required.
That makes your existing inventory the right starting point. An older Witt card can handle the shared requirement while you work on other eligible players, so there is little reason to make a new purchase solely for this mission.
The useful distinction is between earning PXP and finishing a mission. Build your squad around several unfinished requirements, then replace players whose assignments are complete when another eligible card would move you closer to a reward.
◆ Any version of Bobby Witt Jr. can satisfy the shared 500 PXP requirement, making an existing card sufficient for that assignment.
◆ Each path offers five missions worth 10 points apiece, leaving one mission optional when you reach the 40-point finish.
2 Which Black Gold Missions Should You Complete in MLB The Show 26
Use Witt plus the three named-player missions that require the least disruption to your available squad. Black Gold asks for 500 PXP with any version of Kevin McGonigle, Chase Burns, Samuel Basallo, or Paul Skenes, with each assignment worth 10 points. Completing all four named assignments also works if Witt is not part of your plan.
The important choice is which assignment to leave unfinished. Owning a usable Skenes card, for example, gives you a way to work on his mission before claiming the final reward; you do not need his new Black Gold version first. Conversely, a missing named player is a sensible candidate to skip when you can complete Witt and the other three assignments.
Black Gold rewards McGonigle at 10 points, Burns at 20, Basallo at 30, and Skenes at 40. Heavy Lumber has a different mission structure, so the same roster strategy will not suit both paths equally well.
These requirements make Black Gold a targeted player grind and Heavy Lumber a more flexible roster exercise. Choose Black Gold first when you already have several of its named players ready; choose Heavy Lumber first when its broader eligibility better matches the cards you want to use.
3 How Should You Build a Heavy Lumber Mission Squad
Build around the team and position requirements that your inventory can support, then decide whether Eldridge or Stewart should fill the remaining assignments. Heavy Lumber accepts Pirates players through its shortstop/Pirates mission and Padres players through its right fielder/Padres mission. Those team clauses provide alternatives to filling your squad exclusively with the listed positions.
Think in terms of completed assignments, not simply the smallest PXP number. A 500 PXP named-player mission concentrates the work on one player, while a 1,000 PXP team/position mission allows multiple eligible players to contribute. The better choice depends on how many qualifying cards you can field without making the games harder for yourself.
Use this sequence before committing to a longer session. It helps you select the optional mission deliberately and gives you a clear point at which to reconsider your squad.
1) Inspect your Heavy Lumber mission counters and identify which eligible Witt, Eldridge, Stewart, Pirates, Padres, shortstop, and right fielder cards you already own.
2) Select four assignments to pursue and build a squad that can advance several of those chosen requirements together.
3) Check the counters after playing, then replace completed mission players or adjust eligibility when the expected progress is missing.
Offline play is a valid route: Play vs. CPU, Mini Seasons, Conquest, and Diamond Quest are eligible for these PXP missions. Heavy Lumber awards Eldridge at 10 points, Stewart at 20, Honus Wagner at 30, and Gwynn at 40, giving you intermediate cards to consider as the squad changes.
Which Option Should Players Choose
Prioritize the path that fits your inventory and your next roster need. Black Gold is the more straightforward choice when its named players are already available to you; Heavy Lumber is appealing when you can spread progress across a wider eligible squad. Treat the shared Witt assignment as a starting point, not a reason to purchase a particular version.
Before your next session, settle on the four missions you intend to finish and identify any genuine roster gap. Budget for
MLB 26 Stubs only after deciding which optional additions support that plan.
